In coordination together with the State Committee on Forestry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, GIZ organised a workshop for foresters and forest users on pruning techniques. Pruning – such as making crowns and preparing limbs and trunks for grafting – is important for increasing the yield from pistachio trees.
Through workshops and on-the-job training, the capacities of foresters and local forest users in the pilot area were enhanced. Ownership and more responsibility for protection and sustainable use of natural resources will also be enhanced via sustainable pistachio forest management, thereby reducing degradation and uncontrolled overgrazing.
